Premier Energies has secured contracts worth $19.95 million to supply and install solar power systems across the Republic of Benin, marking a significant stride in the West African nation’s efforts to expand access to clean, reliable energy. The contracts, awarded as part of Benin’s national energy program, encompass the installation of 750 rooftop solar systems at critical public facilities, including district police stations, educational institutions, health centers, and border surveillance units. Additionally, the scope of work includes the deployment of over 4,400 solar streetlights and 650 solar water heaters nationwide.
The projects will be executed in collaboration with Benin’s General Directorate of Energy Planning and Rural Electrification, under the Ministry of Energy, Water and Mines. Financing for the initiative is being provided through a line of credit from the Export-Import Bank of India (EXIM Bank) and the ECOWAS Bank for Investment and Development (EBID).
Chiranjeev Saluja, managing director and CEO of Premier Energies, expressed optimism about the projects’ impact, stating, “These projects are expected to enhance community safety, healthcare services, educational infrastructure and overall energy sustainability in the Republic of Benin.” He added, “The contract award represents a strong endorsement of our operational capability and global competitiveness.”
The contracts come at a time when Premier Energies is experiencing robust financial growth. The company recently reported a consolidated net profit increase of 55.3% to Rs3.07bn ($35m) and a 9.9% increase in net sales to Rs18.2bn in the first quarter of the fiscal year 2026 (FY26) compared with the same period in FY25. Backed by GEF Capital, a Washington DC-based private equity investor, Premier Energies is well-positioned to leverage this success to further penetrate international markets.
The Benin contracts could serve as a catalyst for similar projects across Africa, demonstrating the viability of solar energy solutions in enhancing public services and infrastructure. As more nations seek to diversify their energy mix and reduce reliance on fossil fuels, Premier Energies’ expertise in solar technology and project execution could prove instrumental in driving the continent’s clean energy transition. The company’s ability to secure financing through international credit lines also highlights the growing support for renewable energy initiatives in developing economies. This development may encourage other solar energy providers to explore similar opportunities, fostering increased competition and innovation in the sector.
