Honeywell Unveils Ionic Modular BESS for Commercial Energy Storage

Honeywell has launched its Ionic Modular All-in-One, a compact battery energy storage system (BESS) tailored for commercial and industrial sectors. The system, unveiled at the RE+ 2025 event in Las Vegas, combines flexible battery storage with Honeywell’s advanced control system, aiming to optimize energy costs and stabilize grid demand.

The Ionic Control and Energy Management system is fully integrated into the modular BESS, offering analytic tools for advanced control and customization onsite. The system also incorporates ISA Secure 2 cybersecurity, addressing potential network vulnerabilities. “Organizations are under increasing pressure to use energy more effectively while ensuring reliability and cost-effectiveness,” said Jim Masso, president of Honeywell Process Solutions. “Honeywell Ionic enables businesses to navigate these challenges by delivering a complete energy automation system built on the latest lithium-ion technology.”

The Ionic features a flexible modular system with a self-contained lithium-ion battery enclosure, offering power storage options from 250 kWh up to 5 MWh. This scalability makes it suitable for a broader range of commercial and industrial settings. Customers can opt for fully integrated onsite energy storage systems or tailored agreements managed by Honeywell through its Remote Operations Center.

The introduction of the Ionic Modular All-in-One could accelerate the adoption of energy storage solutions in commercial and industrial sectors, particularly as businesses seek to optimize energy consumption and integrate renewables. The system’s scalability and advanced control features may also drive innovation in energy management, pushing other providers to enhance their offerings. Additionally, the emphasis on cybersecurity could set a new standard for protecting energy infrastructure from digital threats, influencing industry-wide practices.
