DEME Launches Second Wind-Turbine Installation Vessel, Norse Energi

DEME, a global leader in offshore energy solutions, has launched its second wind-turbine installation vessel, Norse Energi, at the Yantai CIMC Raffles yard in China. The GustoMSC-designed jack-up vessel is engineered to handle turbines with rotor diameters exceeding 300 metres and XXL monopiles weighing up to 3,000 tonnes in water depths of up to 70 metres. Its sister ship, Norse Wind, shares identical specifications, underscoring DEME’s commitment to standardisation and efficiency in its fleet.

The launch ceremony marked a significant milestone in DEME’s partnership with CIMC Raffles, a collaboration the company described as built on “trust, respect, and excellence.” Safety has been a cornerstone of the project, with DEME emphasising that it remained paramount from the first steel cut in January to the vessel’s launch. Norse Energi now progresses into its final construction and outfitting phases.

DEME anticipates the delivery of both Norse Wind and Norse Energi in the fourth quarter of 2025 and early 2026, respectively. Both vessels will proudly bear the company’s signature green livery, a testament to DEME’s commitment to sustainability and innovation in the offshore wind energy sector.

The introduction of these advanced vessels into DEME’s fleet could significantly influence the development of the offshore wind sector. The ability to handle larger turbines and heavier monopiles in deeper waters expands the scope of projects that can be undertaken, potentially accelerating the transition to renewable energy sources. Moreover, the standardisation of specifications across the fleet could streamline operations, reduce costs, and enhance safety, setting a new benchmark for the industry.

As the offshore wind sector continues to grow, the role of specialised installation vessels like Norse Wind and Norse Energi becomes increasingly crucial. Their deployment could facilitate the development of larger, more efficient wind farms, contributing to the global drive towards cleaner energy solutions. The focus on safety and sustainability in their design and construction also underscores the industry’s commitment to responsible practices, ensuring that the transition to renewable energy is both effective and environmentally conscious.
