Vestas Secures 102MW Italian Wind Order, Expands in Asia-Pacific

Vestas has inked a 102MW order from Edison for two wind projects in Italy, marking the first firm call-off under a broader 400MW frame agreement. The Andretta-Bisaccia site will host five V150-5.6MW EnVentus turbines and 12 V150-4.5MW units, while the Rocchetta project will comprise four V136-4.5MW machines. Both projects will be supported by 10-year service agreements, with turbine delivery and commissioning scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2026.

Francesco Amati, general manager for Vestas Italy, highlighted the significance of this order. “Signing the frame agreement with Edison and securing the first two firm projects totalling 102MW marks an important step in strengthening our long-standing partnership,” he said. This deal underscores Vestas’ commitment to the Italian market and its strategic collaboration with Edison.

Edison Rinnovabili chief executive Fabio Lamioni emphasized the company’s goals. “We aim to modernise our fleet, doubling green energy output while cutting turbine numbers to improve landscape integration,” he stated. This approach reflects a broader industry trend towards larger, more efficient turbines that generate more power with fewer units, enhancing both energy output and environmental integration.

Meanwhile, Vestas has also secured a 43MW order in South Korea for DaeMyoung Energy’s Gokseong Green Wind Power Project. This deal covers seven V162-6.2MW turbines under a 20-year AOM5000 service agreement, with delivery planned for 2027 and commissioning in 2028. This order highlights Vestas’ expanding footprint in the Asia-Pacific region and its focus on high-efficiency turbines.

These developments could shape the wind energy sector in several ways. The trend towards larger, more efficient turbines suggests a shift in industry standards, potentially influencing future project designs and energy output targets. Additionally, the emphasis on landscape integration and modernizing fleets may drive innovation in turbine technology and project planning, aiming to balance energy production with environmental and aesthetic considerations. As Vestas continues to secure significant orders globally, its strategic partnerships and service agreements could set a precedent for long-term collaboration in the wind energy sector.
