Encavis has expanded its German onshore wind portfolio with the acquisition of the 34MW Bebensee wind farm from PNE Group. Located approximately 45km northeast of Hamburg in Schleswig-Holstein, the wind farm has been operational for two months and comprises five Nordex N163 turbines, each with a capacity of 6.8MW. The expected annual output is sufficient to power around 33,000 households, with power purchase secured through a 20-year EEG feed-in tariff.
This acquisition marks another step in Encavis’ ongoing collaboration with PNE. Mario Schirru, chief executive of Encavis, stated, “With the acquisition of the Bebensee wind farm, we are continuing our successful cooperation with PNE and increasing our wind portfolio in Germany to around 770MW.” The transaction follows Encavis’ acquisition of the 34MW Sundern-Allendorf wind farm from PNE four months ago, where PNE subsidiary energy consult GmbH also assumed operational management. This time, energy consult GmbH will again take over the technical and commercial management of the Bebensee wind farm.
Roland Stanze, chief operating officer of PNE AG, highlighted the flexibility of PNE as a project developer, stating, “With this sale, we once again demonstrate our flexibility as a project developer, bringing projects to market at any stage of development to suit our customers.”
This deal underscores a trend in the renewable energy sector where companies are increasingly acquiring operational assets to bolster their portfolios. For Encavis, this acquisition strengthens its position in the German wind market, while for PNE, it demonstrates their ability to develop and sell projects at various stages. The deal could also signal a shift in the dynamics of the renewable energy market, with more companies looking to secure operational assets to ensure a steady revenue stream. As the sector continues to evolve, such transactions may become more common, shaping the competitive landscape and influencing strategic decisions of key players.
