GWS Completes Pre-Assembly for 66 Turbines at Greater Changhua 2 Offshore Wind

Global Wind Service (GWS) has marked a significant milestone in the offshore wind sector with the completion of pre-assembly for 66 turbines at the 924MW Greater Changhua 2 offshore wind farm. This achievement underscores the growing momentum in the Asia-Pacific offshore wind market and highlights the collaborative efforts driving the sector forward.

The project, executed in partnership with Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy, Ørsted, and crane provider BMS, adhered strictly to both the initial and updated schedules. This punctuality is particularly noteworthy given the complexities involved in deploying a new turbine platform. More than 140 technicians were engaged in the project, demonstrating the substantial human capital required to advance offshore wind development.

Beyond the technical accomplishments, the project has contributed to workforce development. Over 20 technicians have advanced their careers through skills progression, a testament to the industry’s potential to create opportunities for professional growth. Rasmus Ravn, likely a key figure at GWS, emphasized the collaborative spirit and dedication that drove the project’s success. “We are extremely proud of the team and the collaboration behind Greater Changhua 2. Delivering to schedule on a new turbine platform is a significant achievement and a proof of the professionalism and dedication of everyone involved.”

This milestone reinforces GWS’s growing presence in the Asia-Pacific offshore wind market. The company’s commitment to quality and safety on complex global projects is evident in its track record of delivering both offshore and onshore solutions. As the offshore wind sector continues to expand, such achievements will likely spur further investment and innovation, potentially accelerating the region’s transition to renewable energy.

The successful completion of the Greater Changhua 2 project also raises questions about the future of offshore wind development. Will other regions follow suit, and what role will local workforce development play in these endeavors? As the sector evolves, the interplay between technological innovation, collaborative partnerships, and workforce development will be crucial in shaping its trajectory.
