The first three 15MW turbines, featuring nacelles built at Vestas’ new Szczecin factory, have been installed at the Baltic Power offshore wind farm. This milestone marks a significant step for Poland’s emerging offshore wind supply chain, as developers Northland Power and Orlen highlighted the importance of the West Pomeranian facility in the project’s progress.
The V236-15.0 nacelles, each housing key generating equipment within a structure comparable to a three-storey building, are the first commercial units to be delivered from the Polish plant. Vestas is hiring more than 600 employees to support the facility’s operations, underscoring the project’s role in local job creation and industrial development.
Several of the project’s 76 nacelles will be produced in Szczecin, with additional units coming from Vestas’ Lindo factory in Denmark. The turbine installation began in July 2025, led by a Cadeler O-class jack-up vessel and supported by multiple Crew Transfer Vessels (CTV) and Service Operation Vessels (SOV).
This development could accelerate Poland’s offshore wind sector, positioning the country as a key player in the European energy transition. The establishment of a local supply chain not only reduces dependency on foreign manufacturing but also fosters regional economic growth. As Northland Power and Orlen noted, this milestone is a testament to the collaborative efforts driving Poland’s offshore wind ambitions.
The successful installation of these turbines sets a precedent for future projects, potentially attracting more investment and innovation in the sector. As the Baltic Power project progresses, it will be crucial to monitor its impact on Poland’s energy landscape and its contribution to the broader European renewable energy goals.
