Vestas Acquires Polish Wind Turbine Blade Factory, Boosting European Capacity

Vestas has officially assumed control of the Goleniów onshore wind turbine blade factory in Poland, marking a significant shift in the European wind energy landscape. The transition, following the agreement signed with LM Wind Power, a subsidiary of GE Vernova, on 15 May 2025, has now received all necessary regulatory approvals.

The Goleniów factory, established in 2009 and expanded in 2017, will continue to produce blades for Vestas’ onshore wind solutions, including the V172-7.2MW EnVentus turbine. This acquisition underscores Vestas’ commitment to bolstering its manufacturing capacity to meet Europe’s growing demand for secure, affordable, and sustainable energy.

Felix Henseler, Chief Technology and Operations Officer at Vestas, emphasized the strategic importance of this move: “Strengthening our manufacturing capacity is essential to meet Europe’s need for secure, affordable, and sustainable energy, and expand our industrial competitiveness. The addition of the Goleniów factory reinforces our commitment to scaling the wind industry and it underlines how Europe can spur wind industry investments and jobs with the right long-term policy commitments for wind energy.”

The acquisition also ensures the retention of all approximately 400 former LM Wind Power employees, bringing Vestas’ total workforce in Poland to nearly 2000. Vestas already operates an assembly factory in Szczecin, which manufactures hubs and nacelles for the V236-15.0 MW offshore wind turbine. Together, these facilities enhance Vestas’ ability to serve both onshore and offshore markets in Europe and globally.

Hanif Mashal, Chief Executive Officer of LM Wind Power, commented on the transaction: “We are pleased to complete the transfer of this facility to Vestas. This transaction enables us to simplify our business and reinvest the capital into core EU manufacturing facilities producing GE Vernova wind products to better serve our loyal customer base in the region.”

This development is poised to influence the wind energy sector by reinforcing Vestas’ position as a key player in Europe’s renewable energy transition. The acquisition not only strengthens Vestas’ supply chain but also highlights the importance of strategic investments and policy commitments in driving the growth of the wind industry. As Europe continues to prioritize sustainable energy solutions, such moves are likely to spur further innovation and competition in the sector.
