Global Wind Service (GWS) has appointed Rasmus Ravn as its new chief operating officer, effective 1 August. In this role, Ravn will oversee day-to-day operations and support the company’s global growth strategy, a move that underscores GWS’s commitment to operational excellence and international expansion.
Ravn joins GWS from Vestas, where he spent 17 years in senior roles, most recently as head of onshore construction for northern and western Europe. His extensive experience in project delivery and leadership of global and regional teams managing large-scale onshore and offshore wind developments positions him well to drive GWS’s ambitions.
“I’m genuinely motivated by the opportunity to be part of Global Wind Service’s ambitious growth plans,” Ravn said. “I’m eager to support the company’s development by driving improvements in customer satisfaction through operational, commercial, and cultural alignment. Bringing my experience and energy, I look forward to helping Global Wind Service achieve its goals and navigate the next chapter of its journey.”
GWS chief executive Michael Hoj Olsen highlighted Ravn’s industry experience and strategic vision as key assets. “Rasmus’s extensive experience in the wind industry, combined with his strong leadership and strategic vision, makes him the perfect fit to help GWS scale operations, enhance efficiency, and consistently deliver outstanding results,” Olsen said.
The appointment comes at a pivotal time for GWS, as the company seeks to strengthen its leadership team and solidify its presence as a trusted partner to major original equipment manufacturers (OEMs). Ravn’s role will be crucial in navigating the complexities of the global wind turbine installation and maintenance markets, which are increasingly competitive and technologically advanced.
This strategic hire could signal a shift in GWS’s operational approach, with a greater emphasis on customer satisfaction and operational alignment. Ravn’s background in large-scale wind projects suggests a focus on scaling operations efficiently, which could be a game-changer in an industry where project timelines and budgets are often stretched.
Moreover, Ravn’s experience in both onshore and offshore wind developments could provide GWS with a more diversified portfolio, allowing the company to tap into emerging markets and adapt to evolving industry demands. As the wind energy sector continues to grow, the need for reliable and efficient service providers becomes ever more critical.
Ravn’s appointment is not just about filling a leadership position; it’s about setting a new course for GWS. His vision and experience could very well shape the company’s trajectory in the coming years, influencing how it competes in the global market and how it delivers value to its clients. The wind energy sector is watching closely, as this move could set a precedent for other companies looking to scale and innovate in a rapidly evolving industry.
