Nexans and TenneT Secure €1 Billion LanWin2 Project for Renewable Energy

Nexans has taken a significant step forward in its collaboration with TenneT by securing the LanWin2 project agreement, valued at a staggering €1 billion ($10.3 billion). This ambitious initiative is part of TenneT’s broader 2GW offshore grid connection program in the German North Sea, which aims to bolster the region’s renewable energy capabilities. The LanWin2 project, set to be commissioned by 2030, involves the engineering, procurement, construction, and installation (EPCI) of a 250km long transmission system that features state-of-the-art 525 kV high-voltage direct current (HVDC) technology.

This isn’t just another infrastructure project; it’s a cornerstone for Germany’s energy security and transition towards renewable wind energy. By facilitating the delivery of 2GW of clean energy, LanWin2 will connect offshore wind farms to the mainland, ensuring that the electricity generated can be efficiently integrated into the grid. The project will utilize an innovative cable system, which includes both positive and negative poles along with a metallic return conductor, to transport the energy generated by wind farms back to the onshore converter in the Heide region.
