Innovative Microgrid Design at UMT Sets New Standard for Sustainable Energy

In an era where sustainable energy solutions are becoming increasingly crucial, a recent study has shed light on an innovative microgrid design tailored for the University of Management and Technology (UMT) in Sialkot, Pakistan. This research, led by Muhammad Mateen Afzal Awan from UMT Lahore, aims to optimize energy supply while minimizing costs, a goal that resonates deeply within the energy sector’s ongoing transition toward renewable resources.

The optimal microgrid design boasts a net present cost (NPC) of just $116,987, a sharp contrast to the least favorable design, which relies heavily on generators and battery backups, resulting in an NPC of $2.93 million.
