A recent article published in ‘Mineral Resources of Ukraine’ outlines a strategic approach to developing renewable energy sources in Ukraine, spearheaded by lead author I. D. Bahrii from the Institute of Geological Sciences, NAS of Ukraine. The research emphasizes the need for a competitive strategy that leverages innovative production technologies while ensuring environmental protection.
The authors highlight the potential for Ukraine to harness various renewable energy sources, such as wind and solar power, as well as green hydrogen production. They assert that these technologies could significantly mitigate the country’s energy resource shortages. “The shortage of energy resources in Ukraine can be avoided by implementing our own tested innovative developments,” Bahrii notes, pointing to the viability of utilizing non-traditional energy sources.
One of the key findings of the research is the potential to utilize eroded lands and industrial tailings, particularly in the Kryvyi Rih industrial agglomeration, for energy production. This approach not only aims to generate renewable energy but also promises to create new job opportunities, thereby contributing to local economies. The authors propose the establishment of solar and wind energy facilities on these lands, which could provide a substantial share of the energy needed for production processes.
Moreover, the article suggests the creation of super-powerful wind stations on the Odesa and Dnister sandbanks, drawing on successful international experiences.
